May 2024 – Tony Doss spent over 21 years serving his country in the U.S. Army and the Tennessee Army National Guard. As the Chief Fire Direction Control in Covington, Tenn., his responsibilities encompassed supervising fire direction operations and troubleshooting advanced tactical systems. He played a pivotal role in several real-world hotspots including the U.S. Gulf Coast during the Hurricane Katrina disaster response. His demonstrated adaptability and leadership during deployments for Operation Noble Eagle II, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Red Dawn earned him high praise and recognition for his decision-making while in hostile environments. During that time, he steadily rose through the ranks to Sergeant First Class (E-7). When he retired, he was Battalion Fire Direction Control Sergeant for the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment in Winchester, TN. As the Senior Enlisted Fire Direction Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), he was responsible for a team of over 50 soldiers. His ability to conduct detailed analysis, implement changes in doctrine, and evaluate performance standards in multi-platoon live fire operations were second to none.
Prior to leaving the military in 2010, Tony earned numerous awards for his service to our nation. Among those awards are the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, two Armed Forces Reserve Medals w/M Device, NCO Professional Development Medal, and the Order of Saint Barbara Award.
Tony continues to serve his country and his community as a Sergeant Detective with the Covington Police Department. He is married and the proud father of two children. Tony was nominated for Veteran of the Month by his boss, Covington Police Chief Donna Turner.
