Fallen C. Southall was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 1, 1943, at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.  He served with the engineers in campaigns for New Guinea, the Philippines and Ryukyu (Okinawa).

His awards include: World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic/ Pacific Theater Ribbon with three bronze service stars, Philippines Liberation and the Bronze Star Medal.

He was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946.
