Robert L. Akers was inducted into the U.S. Army July 19, 1944. He attended basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida, saw combat in Europe with E.T.O,. Co. K, 157 Inf, 45 Div Rhineland campaign. During the central Europe campaign he was wounded at Nuremberg, Germany on April 20, 1945. He was discharged October 21, 1945 from the disability center of the Percy Jones Hospital, Fort Custer, Michigan.
