Jackie Lee Volner was born Oct. 16, 1943 in Missouri to Herbert Elmer Volner (1901-1972) and Cletta Blanche Alley (1910-2005)
He joined the United State Navy Dec. 19, 1961 and served until Dec. 9, 1970. Volner quickly realized that civilian life wasn’t for him and he rejoined the Navy three months later, reenlisting on March 3, 1971 and served until Sept 30, 1981, completing 20 years total in service.
Navy Ship’s Serviceman First Class Jackie L. Volner, son of Herbert E. and Cleha Volner, Potosi, is participating in the major NATO exercises “Bold Guard ‘78” and “Northern Wedding ‘78” and Northern Europe.”
He is assigned to the amphibious command ship USS Mount Whitney, homeported in Norfolk, Va.
“Bold Guard ‘78” and “Northern ‘78” are designed [sic] to refine coordination, command and control capabilities in the external reinforcement of NATO’s northern flank and in conducting combined land operations. Taking place over wide areas of the Eastern Atlantic, North Sea and English Channel, maneuvers will include amphibious landings in the Shetland Islands and southern Norway.

Retired Petty Officer First Class Jackie Lee Volner passed away on April 28, 2010 at Methodist North Hospital and was buried at Indian Creek Cemetery in Brighton.
Brighton – JACK VOLNER, 66, died April 28, 2010 at Methodist North Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 30 at Munford Funeral Home, Munford Chapel. Interment will be in Indian Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Volner was retired from U.S. Navy and a veteran of the Vietnam War, and member of First Baptist Church Munford. He leaves his wife of 43 years, Mary Jane Volner; two daughters, Marie (Tony) Ginn and Lorraine (Frank) Kent; one son, Keith (Paige) Volner; two sisters, Frances Cooper and Lavera Saunders; five brothers, Charles Volner, Elmer Volner, Bobby Volner, Billy Volner and Mike Volner; eight grand-children, Taylor, Dixie, Jessica, Tiffany, Trevor, Kyle Lee, Carley, Jordyn; three great-grand-children, Dwight, Elisabeth, and Chloe.
