Jasper W. Everton

Jasper W. (Bill) Everton served in the U. S. Navy from November 10, 1942 until January 10, 1946. His first assignment was to the merchant ship, USS Lou Gehrig, suppling troops to Africa. Bill participated in the invasion of Sicily and Naples, Italy. Transferred to Landing Ship Tank (L.S.T.) 982, he participated in the Normandy invasion. Jasper was then sent to the pacific area, where he operated off Guam and other islands. Bill was anchored off Saipan awaiting the orders to invade Japan when the peace treaty was signed. He remained in the active reserve and was reactivated in March 1950 to serve in the Korean conflict. Bill was honorably discharged on December. 4, 1952 as a First Class Gunners Mate.
