Jesse H. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 5, 1917. After recruit training he was ordered to the battleship USS Nevada where Jesse served the remainder of the war. He was assigned to the engineering department. Jesse was never involved in any battle action. His highest rate attained was fireman first class.  Jesse was honorably discharged on June 17, 1919. He returned home to the Charleston community, Tipton County, Tennessee. Jesse married Johnnie Hutson from Texas in 1920. They had four children; Bill Jim, Rob Roy, Joy and Shirley. Both his sons served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. Both were at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked on Dec 7, 1941. Jesse died on sept 30, 1976. He was buried in Munford Cemetery in Covington, TN.
