Douglas L. Arthur

Douglas Layton Arthur was born July 4, 1922 at Brighton, Tenn. The son of James Roy and Margaret Lucille Craig Arthur, he was inducted into the U. S. Army on Jan. 1, 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.

Attached to First Army, Arthur served in the 610th Engineer Light Equipment Company. The 610 Engineer trained at Ft. Beale in California, before deploying overseas. In June 1944, Arthur and his unit came ashore at Normandy, France while participating in the D-Day Invasion. Later that year in December, he saw combat in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged from service as a Technical Sergeant (Tec) 5 on December 2, 1945.

After leaving the service, Arthur married Helen L. Taylor and together they raised two sons, Douglas and Dennis Arthur. 

Douglas Layton Arthur died Oct 13, 2000 and is buried at Northridge Woodhaven Chapel and Cemetery, in Millington, Tenn.
